Old School Music

Last month I went to another {amazing} city for a girls weekend with some of my faves. I'm getting ready to spend another weekend with them this weekend, and can't wait!

Some highlights....

Eating AMAZING food. Like this Falafel & Hummus plate. With Ginger Ale.

AH-mazing food! Thank you Salvadors. I forgot how much I love you!

Quality time with some of the greatest girls ever...
Like Anna Mo & Audrey

and sweet Anna B!

THEN we got to celebrate our beautiful friend Kristy and her little "Nugget" growing inside of her before she headed back to the states for his arrival in the next month or so!

It was the last time all 5 of us would be together :(
These 4 women have blessed my socks off this year.

But perhaps the greatest highlight of the weekend was racking our brains and reminiscing over 90's music.

Being the mid-20 somethings we are, the 90 dominated our adolescent years.... such a nostalgic time of life, and what makes you more nostalgic than music? And lets be honest, other than some sweet TV shows and horribly terrible acting in movies, not much else was too exciting about the 90's. There were  certainly no distinct fashion styles.

But who doesn't remember the days when CD's first came out and you loved to lay on your bed rocking out to Coolio, TLC, Presidents of the United States of America, Bush, Alanis Morissette, Sarah McLachlan, Ace of Base..... and the list goes on and on and on.

The first night of our weekend together, Anna Mo was playing on my itunes and starting making some discoveries.... and poor Audrey couldn't hold herself together. I think she almost burst into tears a good half a dozen times when another jewel was found. So for the rest of the weekend, we racked our brains and they just kept coming. Audrey kept a list and in all we thought of over 160 songs and/or artists who were the bombDOTcom during our adolescent years.

After much deliberation, I have narrowed it down to my top 10....that I will now share with you...

Here we go.

10. Kiss the Rain- Billie Myers
{I still can't figure out how exactly you "kiss the rain," but by gosh this was a darn good my heart is breaking and I think I can't go on song}
9. I Don't Want to Wait- Paula Cole
{Dawson's Creek. oh that Pacey.}
8. The Freshman- The Verve Pipe
{I still can't figure out what kind of freshmen they were- high school or college. I sure hope college. wait . I sure hope... neither. So depressing.}
7. Strawberry Wine- Deana Carter
{the thick accent comes back out in full force. SSSEEEEEEVENteen HAWT July Mooooon}
6. You Gotta Be- Des-ree
{ahhhhhh. sing it sista.}
5. All My Life- K-Ci & Jojo
{definitely called into the radio station when i was 14 and dedicated this to my boyfriend}
4. Truly, Madly, Deeply- Savage Garden
{had my first kiss at a dance during this song. then when we broke up I changed the words to something like "I want to kick you off the mountain....."}
3. Colorblind- Counting Crows
{pretty sure I can't hear it without picturing Reece coming off the escalator before... ya know... in Cruel Intentions. I think I watched that movie 365 times the year it came out}
2. I'll Be- Edwin McCain
{i'm pretty sure no one ever knew what the words ever really were, but boy did we mean them.}

AND the #1 song that defined the 90's......
1. I Love You Always Forever- Donna Lewis
{SAY YOU'LL LOVE, LOVE ME FOREVER!!!!}

And receiving honorable mention......
Meet Virginia- Train
Brick- Ben Fold Five
Torn- Natalie Imbruglia
Rockabye- Shawn Mullins
Kissed By a Rose on the Grave- Seal

I have a feeling this list will either grow this weekend, OR we will come back with a list of TV Shows and movies that defined those years. Get excited.

What are your favorite songs from the 90's?
